5 Best Auckland CBD Event Venues for Photo Booth Hire

Choosing from the many Auckland CBD event venues is the biggest decision you’ll make for your event. Choosing one that works with a photo booth is the smart bit most planners forget until the week before.

At Kookaboo Photo Booth, we set up across Auckland all year. Our Glam Cam, Classic Booth, Giant Magic Mirror and 360 Photo Booth each need different things from a room, such as floor space, ceiling height and power. Below are five Auckland CBD venues that suit a photo booth, plus what to check before you book.

What to look for in Auckland CBD event venues

  • Floor space. Our booths need at least 2m x 2m (3m x 2m is ideal). The 360 Photo Booth needs a minimum of 3m x 3m.
  • A spot with foot traffic. Near the bar, the foyer or the dance floor is better than a corner nobody walks past.
  • Power and load-in access. Check for nearby power points and a lift or loading route.
  • Supplier policy. Some venues have preferred or approved supplier lists, so confirm early that outside suppliers can set up.
  • Lighting. Our booths handle most rooms, but very dark or very bright spaces change the look of the photos.

1. Viaduct Events Centre, Wynyard Quarter

Best for: big corporate events, gala dinners and awards nights

The Viaduct Events Centre (161 Halsey Street) is a three-storey, 6,000m² waterfront venue with floor-to-ceiling glass and harbour views. Its largest space, Waiheke 1 & 2, covers over 2,100m² and is built for large banquets and cocktail functions.

Photo booth fit: There’s plenty of room for any of our booths, including the 360 Photo Booth. Some of our clients even requested having 3 photo booths at the time there! Its floor-to-ceiling glass and harbour backdrop work well for the Giant Magic Mirror, which becomes a talking point with the waterfront behind it. Place it in the open area near the bar and it won’t block foot traffic.

2. Auckland Town Hall, Queen Street

Best for: formal dinners, award ceremonies and heritage-style weddings

Auckland Town Hall (305 Queen Street) is one of the city’s most recognisable heritage buildings. The Great Hall holds around 1,500 guests theatre-style, and the lavish interiors give you a backdrop that needs no extra styling. We often setup either in the main hall or in the wings next to the stairs.

Photo booth fit: Formal guests love a Classic Booth in an elegant space. The prints are included, so guests take a keepsake home from a venue they’ll remember. Choose a foyer or pre-function area that guests pass through on arrival.

3. Aotea Centre, Mayoral Drive

Best for: conferences, product launches, expos and large work parties

The Aotea Centre (50 Mayoral Drive) is a flexible convention space in the middle of the CBD. We have been to the Hunua Rooms cover 909m² and can be divided into three rooms. The Waitākere Rooms add large windows with city views, and the Air New Zealand Balcony Foyer is a big, open social space.

Photo booth fit: It suits the Glam Cam and the 360 Photo Booth at launches and brand events. The foyers are wide enough to run a queue without a crowd forming. If you’re planning something bigger, take a look at our brand activation service.

4. Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki, Wellesley Street

Best for: boutique evening functions, cocktail parties and intimate weddings

This award-winning building mixes heritage and modern architecture on the edge of Albert Park. The function spaces, including the North Atrium, Mackelvie Gallery and Lower Grey Gallery, are available for evening hire and suit smaller guest lists.

Photo booth fit: Spaces here are more intimate, so check the footprint before you book. A Glam Cam or Classic Booth suits the North Atrium. For the 360 Photo Booth, confirm you can give it a clear 3m x 3m. Galleries often have strict rules about suppliers, so ask early.

5. New Zealand International Convention Centre (NZICC), Hobson Street

Best for: large conferences, corporate celebrations and major one-off events

The NZICC (101 Hobson Street) opened in February 2026 and is New Zealand’s largest convention centre, with 24 meeting rooms and capacity for up to 4,000 people at one-off events. It’s modern, flexible and close to hotels and restaurants.

Photo booth fit: The scale means there’s room for any of our booths, and you can run more than one at once for big guest lists. A pair of Glam Cams or a Giant Magic Mirror next to a 360 Photo Booth is a good way to keep queues short.

Tips for booking your photo booth at any Auckland CBD event venue

  1. Tell the venue early. Ask about supplier policy, load-in times and power when you first enquire.
  2. Measure the space. Check the footprint against the booth you want.
  3. Place it well. Put the booth where guests naturally gather, not tucked away.
  4. Think about the brand. For corporate events, we can match the prints and backdrop to your branding.
